A special education teacher – (known as a SEIT at the preschool level) provides services for children birth-5 year of age. Special instruction services are provided by a certified special education teacher and is specially designed instruction on an itinerant basis (which means the special education teacher travels to the home or the site of the child care setting where the child is attending during the day, such as an approved or licensed prekindergarten or Head Start program or another child care location selected by the parent). Special Instruction Teachers may address a variety of needs/skills including but not limited to:
- Pre-academic/readiness skills
- Play skills
- Social-emotional skills
- Challenging Behaviors
- Any skill(s) that will help the child be more successful in their current setting(s)
